In the last 20 years, the U.S. has faced a significant rise in shortages of essential generic injectable medications, with over 300 reported shortages. This crisis stems from “race to the bottom” pricing, manufacturing challenges, and predatory pricing, ultimately impacting patients the most.

Civica, a 501(c)(4) social welfare organization founded in 2018 by various health systems and philanthropies, aims to combat these chronic shortages and high prices. With over 55 health systems representing 1,500 hospitals, Civica also supplies essential medicines to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and the Department of Defense. Their guiding principle is to “Do What Is in the Best Interest of Patients.”

Civica has expanded its mission to include reducing pharmacy costs through its sister organization, CivicaScript, and is developing affordable biosimilar insulin to support those struggling with medication costs.

Job Description

The Manufacturing Visual Inspector will join Civica’s new Petersburg, Virginia site, focusing on the production of essential sterile injectable medications. Responsibilities include performing visual inspections of filled products per SOPs and cGMP.

Essential Duties:

• Inspect finished product vials and syringes for defects.
• Document work accurately and timely per procedures and cGMPs.
• Set up and adjust inspection equipment.
• Perform quality checks and calculate defect percentages.
• Complete eye exams and inspection certification.
• Collaborate to resolve issues proactively.

Basic Qualifications:

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• 2+ years of inspection experience in a GMP environment.
• Self-motivated and detail-oriented.
• Effective communication skills in English.
• Basic math skills for calculations.
• Ability to work autonomously and adapt to schedule changes.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in a sterile fill finish facility.
• Visual inspection experience of vials and syringes.

Shifts:

1st shift: 7am to 3:30pm
2nd shift: 3pm to 11:30pm
3rd shift: 11:30pm to 7:30am
